Mr Glenn Rainbird, a consultant providing governance and leadership advice, was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 429 Transport Squadron, 8 Wing Trenton ON, in July 2016.

During an accomplished business career Honorary Colonel Rainbird held a number of senior executive leadership responsibilities.  He completed daily corporate life as President and Chief Executive Officer of TRLabs, a leading innovator of Canadian information and communications technologies.  As a Vice-President at Nortel Networks his responsibilities covered public relations and corporate advertising for the company’s Canadian, Caribbean and Latin American operations.  At Imperial Oil he held a variety of senior positions covering such diverse areas as marketing and product management, business development, financial services, public affairs, and environmental protection.

Honorary Colonel Rainbird’s extensive governance experience includes board of director roles and chairman duties at board and committee levels.  He has guided large and small enterprises, economic development initiatives, R&D organizations, and education, health and sports bodies.  As a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority he served as chair, vice-chair, and chair of the strategy and pension committees.  At Atomic Energy Canada Limited he served on the board of directors as a special advisor and as a member of the board’s science, technology and nuclear oversight committee.  He also served as chair of Veridian Corporation, an Ontario electricity distributor, and as chair of the Edmonton Regional Airports Authority. Under the banner of “Governance Dynamics”, he operates a consulting business contributing governance and leadership counsel to boards of directors and executive leadership clients from a broad range of businesses and organizations.

Honorary Colonel Rainbird is an Officer of The Order of Canada, an appointment recognizing his leadership role in developing Canada's capabilities in the Internet age.  He is a recipient of a Chief of Defence Staff Commendation for his contributions made under exceptional circumstances to the Canadian Forces, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal honouring his service to Canada, the Hewlett-Packard Forum Award presented in recognition of his leadership and initiative in furthering industry-university co-operation, and the Canadian IWAY Award for leadership in the development of Canada’s information highway. He formerly served as Honorary Colonel of 8 Wing, Canadian Forces Base Trenton.

Honorary Colonel Rainbird has held professional engineer designations in Alberta and Ontario.  He holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and an M.B.A. from Queen’s University and an Honorary Diploma in Applied Arts and Technology from Loyalist College.

 Honorary Colonel Rainbird and his wife, Jennifer, reside in the Quinte Region where they concentrate their community service on health care and enjoy close proximity to their three grandchildren.
