Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew Wedgwood

Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) Wedgwood enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1991. In 1995, he graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering before proceeding to CFB Borden where he completed his Aerospace Engineering Officer training in 1996. He was subsequently posted to DGAEPM in Ottawa where he worked as a navigation and communication systems engineer. In 1998 he was promoted to Captain and moved to the CC-130 Avionics Upgrade Project where he helped to modify the CC-130 Hercules cockpit from five older configurations to one fully modernized version.

In 2001, LCol Wedgwood was posted to the A3 Electronic Warfare Operational Support unit in Ottawa where he worked as an Electronic Warfare System Test Engineer in support of the CC-130 and CF-188 fleets. In 2005, he was posted to 8 Air Maintenance Squadron where he served in a variety of positions and deployed with the CC-130 Tactical Airlift Unit to the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan from December 2006 to June 2007. Upon his return he was promoted to Major and stayed with 8 Air Maintenance Squadron serving as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer supporting first line maintenance of the CC-130 and as the Deputy Commanding Officer.

LCol Wedgwood was posted to 1 Canadian Air Division in Winnipeg in 2009 as the Aircraft Maintenance Standards Officer before being selected to attend the Joint Command and Staff Programme in Toronto in 2011. During that period he completed his Masters in Defence Studies and was promoted to his current rank. In 2012 he was posted back to the Ottawa region where he served as the Integrated Logistics Support Manager and Deputy Program Manager for the Airlift Capability Project –Tactical which saw the acquisition and fielding of the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF's) new fleet of CC-130J Hercules Aircraft.

LCol Wedgwood was posted to Trenton as Commanding Officer of 8 Air Maintenance Squadron in August 2014 during which time he also fulfilled the responsibilities of RCAF Lead Planner/Exercise Director for Exercises Unified Resolve and Maple Resolve, the capstone training events on the road to high readiness for both the Canadian Army’s 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, as well as the RCAF’s composite Air Task Force.

LCol Wedgwood is posted summer 2016 as Commander 5 Wing Goose Bay, an exciting challenge that he is excited to take on.
