Chief Warrant Officer John Short

Born in North Bay, Ontario, Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) John Short joined the Canadian Armed Forces in July of 1986 as an Aero Engine Technician. After basic training at the Canadian Forces Recruit School in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, CWO Short completed his initial trade training at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering in Borden, Ontario.

In 1987, CWO Short was posted to 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario, maintaining both the CC-130 Hercules and CC-137 Boeing aircraft. Promoted to Master Corporal, he was posted to 426 Squadron for four years as a CC-130 Hercules instructor. CWO Short joined the Maritime Patrol family at 14 Wing Greenwood, Nova Scotia in 2002. During his tenure at 14 Air Maintenance Squadron, Sergeant Short was inducted into the Order of Military Merit. After seven years in the CP-140 community, now Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Short was posted to the Directorate of Future Security Analysis (DFSA) in Ottawa, Ontario, as an analyst. This in turn led to a posting at the Canadian Forces Warfare Centre (CFWC) where he was involved in Force and Concept Development. During his transition from DFSA to the CFWC, MWO Short attended and graduated from the United States Air Force Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base in 2011 where he earned the Distinguished Graduate award. In 2012, he was promoted to CWO and posted to the Director Military Careers as the Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent CM. In 2013, CWO Short studied and graduated from the Non-Commissioned Member (NCM) Executive Professional Development Program at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. In May of 2014, CWO Short was appointed to the position of Air Maintenance Branch Chief Warrant Officer. In 2016 he has been appointed to his current position as the 22 Wing CWO.

During the course of his career, CWO Short has had the opportunity to serve in various locations throughout the world. Tours which were highlights to him include the Persian Gulf War, Operation (Op) Air Bridge, Op Athena, Afghanistan and more recently in Kuwait as the Op Impact Task Force CWO.
