The FTI summarises information contained in the preliminary report. It describes factual information, immediate safety actions taken and the focus of the ongoing investigation.

The FSIR is a comprehensive report on a Flight Safety occurrence and all related aspects to provide reviewing authorities with detailed information on which to base recommended preventive measures. The report closely parallels the internationally accepted ICAO format. It contains four sections: facts, analysis, conclusions and preventive measures and is released to the public under the authority of the Director of Flight Safety, National Defence Headquarters, pursuant to powers delegated to him by the Minister of National Defence as the Airworthiness Investigative Authority (AIA) for the Canadian Forces.

The Epilogue summarises the information contained in the final report (FSIR).
