Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Campaigne was born in Berwick Nova Scotia, May 1959, as a military dependent. In July 1977, he enrolled at Canadian Forces recruiting centre (CFRC) Charlottetown P.E.I. as a teletype and cipher technician and went on to complete Basic Training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Following Basic Training, he completed Basic Electronics and Occupational Training at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics, Kingston On. After completing his Apprentice Training in 1978, he was posted to 720 Communication Squadron (Comm Sqn), Camp Debert, Nova Scotia working in the underground Communications Node facility.
In 1981 CWO Campaigne was posted to 742 Comm Sqn, Edmonton Alberta, as a journeyman technician maintaining message center equipment. In 1983, after completing a six-month tour in Alert, he was posted to Comm Sqn Baden in Germany. Promoted to master corporal in 1985 he took over as shop supervisor of the Telecommunication Maintenance shop. In 1988 he was posted to CFB Greenwood and in 1989 was promoted to sergeant (sgt) as shop supervisor under the BAMEO Teletype Crypto Maintenance section, maintaining high speed teletype and crypto on Aurora aircraft.
Posted in 1993 as sgt, CWO Campaigne supervised Area Maintenance workshop at 726 Comm Sqn in Halifax. In 1995 he was promoted to warrant officer and assumed responsibilities as Formation Telecom WO for MARLANT N6. In July 2000 he was promoted to master warrant officer and posted to Canadian Forces Crypto Maintenance Unit as the unit’s Technical Operations Manager overseeing COMSEC installations across the CF. In 2004 he was promoted to CWO and subsequently posted to 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters as the Aerospace Telecommunications and Information Systems (ATIS) Tech Occupation Training Manager. In 2007 CWO Campaigne assumed responsibilities as the 8 Air Communications and Control Squadron CWO at 8 Wing Trenton until July 2010 when he was assigned his current position as the Canadian Forces Aerospace Warfare Centre unit Chief Warrant Officer.
ROLE of the CFAWC CWO
The Canadian Forces Aerospace Warfare Center CWO is an integral member of the Doctrine Development Team and is assigned to many of the projects ongoing within the unit. The CFAWC CWO also collaborates with Land Force Doctrine and Training System, Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre, Capability Advisory Groups, Wings, 1 Canadian Air Division and Air Force CWO to ensure that non-commissioned members’ issues and perspectives are addressed throughout doctrine development. The CFAWC CWO monitors developments in Aerospace Power doctrine and Strategy world wide and assesses or commissions assessments of other nations’ aerospace power operations/technology and doctrine for applicability to CF aerospace power operations. In that role, the CFAWC CWO publishes documents, reports and research notes on aerospace power issues. The CFAWC CWO participates in auditing exercises and war games and assists in the collection and analysis of information that will help to develop and validate aerospace concepts & doctrine for the CF.
