Three CT-155 Hawks, which are training jets used by the Canadian Forces, were in 19 Wing Comox, B.C. from 6 to 9 Oct. The jets conducted regular training in Comox due to poor weather at their home base, 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Sask. Training consisted of formation flying, approaches and upper air work.
“We at 2 Canadian Forces Flight Training School (2 CFFTS) are looking forward to this opportunity to deploy our jets and students away from home base,” said Major Ryan Stich, Operations Officer at 2 CFFTS, before the deployment. “This is a great opportunity for our students to fly in a different environment and allows us to continue training despite the inclement weather forecast for Moose Jaw. Producing future pilots for the Canadian Forces is our primary objective.”
2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School is at the centre of pilot training in Canada's Air Force. 2 CFFTS trains over 150 pilots every year through the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program.
The CT-155 Hawk is used for the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program because of its similarities to frontline fighter aircraft. Student pilots graduate from the CT-156 Harvard II to this highly advanced jet trainer. Its Rolls-Royce turbofan engine generates more than 6000 pounds of thrust and powers the jet to supersonic speeds.
