Construction Engineering
The 14 Wing Construction Engineering Squadron is responsible for the provision of all construction and maintenance activities at 14 Wing and associated properties. This includes the construction and maintenance of all buildings and works, the operation and maintenance of utility plants and services, the provision of real property services and "round the clock" provision of crash, fire, rescue, and aircraft arrestor services. The CE Squadron provides most of these services, not only to the 14 Wing area, but also to Military Training Centre Aldershot, Granville Range, Canadian Coastal Radar Sites Barrington and Sydney, Middleton and Yarmouth Armouries in support of Land Force Atlantic Area, and Debert Airfield in support of the Regional Gliding School (Atlantic).
The Wing Construction Engineering Squadron currently employs 76 civilian and 101 military personnel divided into five major sub-sections: Requirements, Engineering, Operations (Production, Utilities, and 141 Airfield Engineering Flight) Fire Hall and CE Administration.
The CE Squadron annual budget is roughly $10 million, spent on civilian wages, utilities, and maintenance contracts through Public Works and Government Services Canada or Defense Construction Canada.
An integral part of the Construction Engineering Squadron is 141 Airfield Engineer Flight comprised of 35 military personnel. Their primary role is to prepare to deploy on Peace Support or Contingency Operations. They have recently been deployed as a unit to Haiti and Kosovo. Individual taskings include Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Golan Heights and Canadian Forces Station Alert.
The CE Squadron maintains two emergency response agencies. The Wing Fire Hall is currently established with 41 firefighters, four crash/rescue vehicles, two structural vehicles and one Command and Control vehicle. In addition, they provide First Responder Medical Services to the Wing and PMQ areas, as well as fire inspection/engineering and fire education services.
141 Airfield Engineering Flight is tasked with maintaining a Damage Control Team that includes military tradesman and civilian employees equipped to provide emergency restoration operations, or environment and hazardous material responses should such situations occur outside of normal working hours.
